What is AtelierDeck®?

How is AtelierDeck® made?
To achieve the stunning finishes within our Atelierdeck® range, we take our ThermoWood hardwood decking, mechanically brush the surface, and then apply a colour coat twice to it. The colour coating is very flexible and UV-resistant.
The history of AtelierDeck®:
We launched our Atelier Brushed-Grain Decking in the summer of 2019, after 18 months of research and development. This gives our customers a textured brushed grain and slip-resistant surface in a choice of 5 colours. The boards are all finished at 21mm thick, and widths can be 90mm up to 150mm
Benefits of AtelierDeck®:
Two-stage UV-resistant coating system
Washable surface
Flexible to accommodate any subtle movement in the timber.
Resists flaking, cracking and peeling
Non-Flammable
Low VOC, so it can be used internally and externally
Our sample panels have been walked over as doormats continuously with work boots for the past 18 months in our yard, and the colour still remains.
Why should I consider colour-coated decking?
Although it's not essential for improving the longevity of the timber, the main reason that people paint their timber decking is to help protect it and to prevent the UV sunlight from fading the decking to a dull grey. The unique graining of the Ash is emphasised and every board, unlike composite, is unique with no repeat pattern.
Maintenance of AtelierDeck®:
Maintenance will be down to washing over with washing-up liquid using a soft long-handled brush and then hosing down. A jet wash must not be used as it may damage the painted surface.
The colouring of Atelier® Brushed-Grain Decking will be more about the aesthetics and design intent instead of protecting the timber from the weather because the ThermoWood Ash Hardwood will have its own built-in durability.
Our Atelier collection is coated and sealed using our specially formulated QFlex® - A flexible, UV, Coater/Sealer.
Durability: Class 1 Suitable for exterior use, in ground contact without protection – Class 4. TMT as per European Norms EN 350 and BS EN335-1 minimum 30yrs as per CEN/TS 15083-1:2005 technical norms in continuously wet conditions and ground contact.
Density: ThermoWood Ash is 595-620 Kg/m3 with a Moisture content of 4-7% at 20 degrees air temperature with a relative humidity of 65%.
Modulus of elasticity and strength: These are lower than regular wood due to the reduced moisture content and structural changes during the ThermoWood process.
Fixings: Use A2 Stainless Screws for face fixing. Pre-drill if doing so to avoid splitting the wood. Alternatively, the boards can be side grooved to take our Invizifix ® clips.
Factory Coating: Water-based flexible, Coloured UV finish. Specifically made for AtelierDeck®products.
Brinell Hardness: ThermoWood Ash products are 35 N/mm2,
Emissions: Are not harmful in fresh air. Test results of TVOC (Total Volatile Organic Compounds have shown that rates are much lower than regular wood.
Fire Resistance: According to EN 13501 (SB10-Test), the reaction class towards fire is rated at ‘Class B’. AtelierDeck® to reach BS 476 Class 0 and Class 1 however can easily be achieved with our own special fire-retardant submersion treatment.
Insulation Properties: Insulation properties have been increased by 20% and are ideal for use internally and externally for decking, flooring, saunas, windows and doors.
