Scandinavian Pine

This species of pine, as the name suggests, is grown in the cold regions of Scandinavian. The benefits of this being that, in cold dry climates, the trees grow at a much slower rate and therefore their growth rings are much closer together, and their cell structure is dense. Therefore, making the Scandinavian Pine more durable than UK and European Pines that grow in more moderate climates.

Why should I consider ThermoWood Scandinavian Pine instead of Standard Pressure Treated Pine?

This is a commonly asked question and the main reason is for stability.

It will last longer in service because it’s not twisting and cupping and pulling on the fixings.

Do I still need to face screw through the surface?

No, you can use hidden clip fixings (Invizifix®) due to its’s stability which leaves the top face blemish free. This will also eliminate the risk of poorly installed screws damaging the surface that can lead to small splinters around the screw head.

Does ThermoWood timber go into landfill sites?

No, because the ThermoWood process only uses high heat and steam and no chemicals. All chemically pressure-treated timber will have to go to landfill sites.

Is ThermoWood Pine just as durable as Chemically Pressure Treated Pine?

Yes, Due to the dense nature of the Scandinavian Pine and the ThermoWood process it goes through, durability is 25+ years and has the added environmental and performance benefits.

Does Thermally Treated (ThermoWood) Pine cost more?

If you are comparing it with the chemically pressure treated pine of the same size from your local DIY store or some builders’ merchants, then yes it will be slightly more. However, this is because the quality of the P/T Pine will be of a fast grown pine species and hence a lower quality. So, if you are looking for a quick fix and move on then that is fine however, if you are looking to invest in a product that will provide long term performance and consideration given to the environment then ThermoWood will provide this for you.
