Sumika™
Heat-Engineered Timber with a
10-Year Surface Warranty
A precision-textured cladding range designed to deliver the depth of a charred aesthetic with enhanced surface durability and long-term stability, without traditional charring. Sumika™ is a heat-engineered timber cladding system developed by QTD Ltd for projects where a bold, dark façade is required alongside consistency, robustness, and specification confidence.
Engineered Surface Strength
Built for Impact and Exposure
Sumika™ features a precision-formed surface texture designed to deliver enhanced durability and resistance to everyday wear.
The engineered finish provides increased surface robustness compared to traditional hand-charred timber, helping reduce flaking, scuffing, and surface breakdown over time.
Ideal for exposed façades, high-contact areas, and demanding architectural environments where both appearance and resilience matter.

Every Sumika™ board is backed by a 10-year surface warranty, reflecting the strength of its engineered texture and heat-conditioning process.
This warranty supports:
-
Long-term surface integrity
-
Consistent façade performance
-
Reliable external surface durability
Designed for specification clarity, Sumika™ gives architects, contractors, and clients added reassurance that the finish is built to last, not just to look good on day one.
🚨 Calling all Architects and Builders 🚨
Why should you use Sumika™ Heat-Engineered Timber Cladding on your projects?
Sumika™ has been developed as a process-led cladding system, offering the visual depth associated with charred timber while avoiding the variability and fragility of traditionally charred surfaces.
Sumika™ combines precision burning surface texturing with heat-engineering up to 300 degrees C. Producing a consistent, tactile finish engineered for long-term external performance and Impact Resistant.
Sumika™ is manufactured using a controlled high-heat engineering process to enhance the timber’s dimensional stability and suitability for external and internal use.
The visual character is created through forming a relief pattern across the face of the board. This textured surface creates depth, shadow, and tonal variation, delivering a strong, dark façade charred aesthetic without the variability of hand-charring the timber. This also allows us to use UK-grown timbers that would normally be unsuitable for conventional charring methods.
The result is a stable, durable cladding board designed to perform consistently over time.

Why Specify Sumika™?
Sumika™ has been developed for architects and specifiers who want the architectural depth of a charred façade, without the fragility, inconsistency, or uncertainty of traditional hand-charring.
It is not a decorative imitation.
It is a process-led, engineered timber solution designed for performance.
😍
#1 Architectural Depth with Engineered Consistency
Sumika™ delivers the bold, dark presence associated with charred façades through a precision-formed surface texture. The relief pattern creates shadow, tonal variation, and tactile depth — while maintaining greater uniformity and predictability across boards.
This ensures a controlled, specification-ready aesthetic across the entire façade.
💪
#2 Surface Strength Built for Real Environments
The engineered surface is designed to provide enhanced resistance to scuffs, impact, and everyday exposure. Unlike traditional hand-charred finishes, which can be delicate and prone to surface flaking, Sumika™ is developed for robustness — making it suitable for exposed elevations and high-contact interior areas.
🧯
#3 Heat-Engineered Dimensional Stability
Through a controlled high-heat engineering process, the timber achieves improved stability and reduced moisture-related movement. This supports long-term façade performance across varying environmental conditions, helping maintain alignment, finish integrity, and visual consistency over time.

#4 10-Year Surface Warranty
Sumika™ is backed by a 10-year surface warranty, reflecting confidence in the engineered texture and durability of the finish. This provides added reassurance for architects, contractors, and clients — supporting clear, defensible specification decisions.
