Garden Rooms & Studio Rooms: Why the Outside Matters More Than Anyone Tells You

If you’re searching for garden room inspiration, you'll find the same story told a hundred times over: vaulted or flat ceilings, bi-fold doors, underfloor heating, lighting and power sockets, the perfect home office, gym, man-cave, arts and crafts setup. The options are endless, and they are still very popular 6 years on from the rush to get one when Covid struck. Every supplier wants to sell you the inside. And fair enough, it's where you'll work, train, relax and unwind.
But the thing nobody mentions is that you don't live in your garden room's interior. You live with it. Every time you look out of your kitchen window, walk down the garden, or have friends round, what you're actually looking at is the exterior. That's the view. That's the impression. And right now, almost everyone's garden room exterior looks pretty much the same in terms of shape and facade.
Walk down any street of gardens with a garden room or studio, and you'll see one of two things: cheap painted softwood, or Western Red Cedar.
